Kudos to you – for adding another perspective to our views. I really enjoyed this. I like what Billy has to say – a set percentage across the board – you make less, you pay less, you make more, you pay more – it’s all a set percentage, and i do think that is fair.

I enjoyed this article. We all think we uphold fairness until we really think about it. (= And I’ve never liked the parable you ended with…I always relate to the feelings of the first guys who worked all day…It’s the insipid self-righteousness of the older brother of the prodigal that I fall into, too… not understanding God’s amazing grace to all of us.

Using Biden's definition of fairness, not only would the footrace start with everyone on the starting line and running at the starting gun, but they'd all have to cross the finish line at the same time too. That would be fair. He talks about fair results, not fair opportunity.

If God treated us fairly, we'd all have been blasted to smithereens long ago.

Since we're throwing together politics and Christian principles, how about this idea: the flat tax. The way I look at it, God asked for the first 10%. If you had more, you paid more. If you had less, you paid less. But, it was, ahem, fair across the board. I'd be all for a flat tax.

Joe Biden is speaking in the context of an American political debate, and so, naturally, it's all about us Americans. But, unfortunately, whenever we Americans talk about fairness, we tend to limit the discussion to what goes on within the geographical circumference of our own great nation. Jesus' program, which he called the kingdom of God, has to do with the whole world. Jesus wants to be fair, and more than fair, to everybody. Would Joe Biden want to seek fairness for everybody? Would we? Life is truly unfair. If it were fair, virtually all of us Americans would be a lot poorer than we are.
